Friday afternoon saw us back at Haden Hill to celebrate another Green Flag Award for the parks which is the EIGHTH year running. They were also awarded The Green Heritage Award for the FIFTH year running.
A lot of work is put by the ground staff, parks officers, local Ward Councillors and Friends of Haden Hill Estate.
Congratulations on yet another wonderful achievement.
Tuesday lunchtime we were invited to the Central Library Relaunch. With the Town Crier Adrian announcing to all and sundry the event taking place in the library today, and with it being open after extensive refurbishment by myself. My original concept of library’s would be books, books and more books but this is not so with The Central Library with everything from CD’s ,Internet access and not only that computers to do the job.
There were many speeches also covering many years. We also had the young people join us giving us a short play which was hilarious.
The highlight of the afternoon was the cutting of the cake which was in the form of an open book, and it tasted wonderful, after which we had the photographs.
Saturday morning was an eye opener. We were invited to perform the opening of The Canalside Moorings at Neptune Health Park in Tipton.
I was not prepared for the number of people who turned out to support this very important occasion. Not only were the Neptune Health Park inundated, but it stretched down to The Coronation Gardens with stalls and entertainment together with boats, boats and more boats.
It was a truly succesful day with special thanks to the Tipton Carnival Queen, and the Tipton Community Association for all their hard work in making this event happen, and we should not forget Tipton & Coseley Building Society for sponsoring this great occasion.
We celebrated Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence. I had the honour of raising the flag outside the Council House.
It was a very multicultural event and after the ceremony we ajourned to the council chamber for refreshments.
We had a walk around the new pavilion in Dartmouth Park. The cafe there is open every day during the school holidays and also on the weekend.
