Monday afternoon we invited Mr Bill Woodhouse into The Big House to have a cup of tea with us.
Mr Woodhouse is a quiet unassuming gentleman who doesn’t seek recognition even though he has worked tirelessly for Sandwell. He was awarded an MBE in 1989 for his work in setting up Sandwell Enterprise Ltd. He was also instrumental in setting up a Sandwell Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He has served as a Director of The Sandwell Homes Board and he was Chair of the Shadow Standards Committee for two years from 1998, and Chair of The statuary Committee from 2000 until 2012.
Mr Woodhouse decided to stand down when changes of legislation removed the requirement for independent members of The Standards Committee.
Mr Woodhouse has been an invaluable asset to The Standards Committee, he has been committed, fair and professional and has been a major factor in the success of The Standards Regime in Sandwell.
Cllr Geoff Lewis, who has known Bill for many years and spoke fondly of their time together.
We were joined by distinguished guest and members of the committee who came to say farewell.
