Tanhouse 20 Years Celebrations

Friday night we were invited to celebrate 20 years that Tanhouse came into being.  As the Local Management of Schools deemed it to be a not viable school with such low numbers. Not only that, Gorse Farm School was also struggling.

It seemed to offer a solution that a Community Centre, which was desperately needed in the area, would be a solution.

A proposal was put before the Council that both Tanhouse and Gorse Farm would be closed and a new School was to be opened, hence Ferndale was created.

Tanhouse was opened as Newton’s new Community Centre, and 20 years later we are celebrating the success of Tanhouse.

After l delivered my speech l was overwhelmed with the tankard l was given, and completely at a loss for words when a plaque was unveiled naming the hall after me. I was so touched by this action.

Special thanks to everyone that made this evening one l will always remember. I would also like to thank Visa and Debbie for all their help given to me and to the Management Committee in delivering a first class service to the people of Hamstead.
